What ADSR is to Sydney, Tweakers is to Bangkok and so far the Thai version has produced two episodes for their series based on what it’s like to be a musician, gearing towards the production aspect. Seen above is the second episode with Psychedelic/Progressive/Dub outfit Sticky Rice and is set in their studio where they guide us through some of the hardware and techniques used in their...

Sonar Festival is a three day event that showcases music and multimedia art. This years performances were streamed live on Youtube and above is a live set from James Blake at Sonar São Paulo 2012. The 33-minute recording sees Blake show off tracks from his self-titled debut album - one of my favourite’s of 2011, and it sounds unreal with the live band.

New Update August 2012
I got back in touch with an old mate, Narayan, a few months ago and we talked about starting another music project. We’ve jammed a few times and some of that material might end up in the [Zero] project with some newly recorded tracks as well. Here’s some of the gear that we’ll be using. For our earlier sessions I brought the DSI keyboards and set it up at next to his Yamaha...

Electric Egypt has just come out with 13 tracks for his album ‘Exotica’. There are plenty of great samples, analogous and organic sounds on this record that makes of some interesting textures. The prelude ‘Mountain In The Clouds‘ sets the tone for the rest of the album with vocals from LaNote, who is one of my favourite guests that appear on the album along with...

I’ve been working on some music for an EP that will be released under the moniker New Tempo. For this project I wanted to start with a clean slate and delve into light stencils and designing prints for tees, as well as sound recording. Having just lost a bunch of old material and my favourite albums and songs due to computer malfunction meant that my go-to references and my bangin’...

Oliver Tank x Rainbow Chan
Back in October 2011, Sydney’s FBi Radio (94.5FM) announced the winners of their Northern Lights competition. It was Oliver Tank & Rainbow Chan to take out the top 2 spots out of 10 finalists - voted by the public - to perform at the Iceland Airwaves Festival. They then went to the festivals host city of Reykjavik, not only to play shows but they also collaborated with local...

Let me introduce you to the new Squarepusher (a.k.a. Tom Jenkinson) - a multi-instrumentalist, most prominently for playing bass guitar but also very well known for his experimentation with tape machines and other various electronic hardware. There’s a new LP and tour on the horizon for the UK-based artist/genius, which will be called Ufabulum. Jenkinson talks about the key elements of the...

I love this bleepy, freaky and glitchy type of stuff - like Crystal Castles, SBTRKT & Mr. Oizo. The latest to come on the scene is London producer Warsnare, with his debut EP, Eris, released on Shades of Grey. The lead title track comes with a video courtesy of David Eglinton. In the 3:51-minute-long animated sequence, you’re warped into a spaceflight and encounter spinning MEGA ancient...

Who is DropxLife?
I’m not sure who DropxLife is, but he, she or they have put out two stunning mixtapes in the past 6 months. The most recent release, FURTHUR, first showed up in January on the Tumblr page belonging to Abel Tesfaye (a.k.a. The Weeknd), who runs XO gang and is the mastermind behind House of Balloons - but it’s Drop’s ALLXLEGENDS that’s on high rotation. ALLXLEGENDS has 9...

‘Various Assets - Not For Sale: A Selection Of Tunes Recorded At The Red Bull Music Academy’ is a compilation not only for you to chill to, but it’s something that would work on the dance floor too. I’ve been anticipating this years installment from Madrid 2011 since I first heard the Barcelona 2008 & London 2010 Various mixes. For 35 tracks in total to be recorded...
